Building Outstanding Leaders in Design

What is BOLD?

B.O.L.D. (Building Outstanding Leaders in Design) is a mentorship program by people of color, for people of color in the design industry. It is rooted in shared experiences, cultural awareness, and the belief that representation in leadership changes the trajectory of the profession.

Through intentional mentorship, community, and leadership development, BOLD is helping to build a stronger, more inclusive future for architecture, interior design, and related fields.

Vision

To provide mentorship for designers of color – by designers of color – so they can excel as leaders and grow a strong, supportive community throughout their careers.

Mission

Diversity strengthens design. By building leaders of color within architecture and design, we can create inclusive, safe spaces that reflect the needs of all people – making local changes that drive global impact.

Eligability

BOLD welcomes IIDA and NOMA members currently working in:

  • Interior Design

  • Architecture

  • Engineering

  • Real Estate

  • Construction

Program Information

  • 1-Year Commitment

  • Mentorship pairs based on goals (not age or years of experience)

  • Monthly programming includes:

    • Speaker presentations

    • Group sessions with 1:1 mentorship breakouts

    • Roundtable discussions

    • Interactive activities and community gatherings

This year, we’re embracing a cohort-based community model, encouraging members to build relationships throughout the group and support one another as valuable, ongoing connections. B.O.L.D. is a professional mentorship organization centered on connecting and uplifting BIPOC Designers. It is also a partnered organization with IIDA & MSP NOMA standing for Building Outstanding Leaders in Design.
